If you live in Illinois, you know that auto emissions testing is a reality. What you might not know, are the most common causes of emissions failures. In general, most failures are caused by your engine not properly burning the fuel it receives. When that happens, the fuel can leak out the tail pipe. In addition to wasting money on unused fuel and increasing harmful emissions, that unused fuel can eat away at oil that should be lubricating the moving parts of your engine which can cause serious damage over time. In other instances, the fuel is not mixing properly with air in your engine causing carbon monoxide (CO) levels to be too high.
Regardless of the cause, at K Auto Repair and Tire Center, we’ll investigate and repair any emissions issues. Once we’re confident the job is complete, we can even take it back to the emissions test center for approval.
Cars manufactured since 1996 rely on the OBD II (On Board Diagnostics, 2nd generation) to determine if emissions are in spec. A car that is not handling emission properly may see the Check Engine or MIL light come on; in those instances your car will not pass an emissions test. Using the latest diagnostic tools, we can determine the cause of the light being on and get the issue resolved so you can pass the emission test.
